Video Lottery Facility Location Commission to Conduct Site Visit and Public Hearing on Cecil County Slots Proposal on August 13

Maryland’s Video Lottery Facility Location Commission will conduct a site visit and hold a public hearing for the Cecil County video lottery facility operation license proposal on Thursday, August 13, 2009, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the Commission announced today. This will be thesecond of the Commission’s site visits and public hearings, following the Commission’s site visit to Worcester County earlier this month. The Commission will conduct visits and hearings for the other two applicants in their respective jurisdictions later this summer.

“The purpose of each of the site visits and public hearings is to get a sense from the applicants of the size and scope of the proposed facilities and to receive public input from residents of the communities surrounding the proposed facility about the potential positive and negative impacts,” said Commission Chairman Donald C. Fry. “In Cecil County, the Commissioners will be particularly interested in hearing about the infrastructure issues related to the proposed facility and how the facility would compete effectively with nearby gaming facilities in Pennsylvania and Delaware.”

On August 13, the Commission’s schedule will be as follows:
1:00 p.m. – Tour of the proposed facility location (I-95 at MD Route 275, Exit 93) – Meet at the Maryland Transportation Authority Building Parking Lot
2:00 p.m. – Commission meeting
3:00 p.m. – Applicant presentation
4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. – Public hearing

The Commission meeting, applicant presentation, and public hearing will be held at Cecil College in North East (I-95, Exit 100) in Room TC-208 of the Technology Building.

Individuals interested in speaking to the Commission are encouraged to sign up to testify before the hearing by calling Maureen Merzlak of the Department of Legislative Services at 410-946-5530 or 301-970-5530. Witness sign-up sheets will also be available at the hearing location by 1:00 p.m. the day of the hearing. At the discretion of the Chairman, individual testimony may be limited to five minutes or less. Speakers should submit 20 copies of any written testimony to the Commission’s staff no later than 2:00 p.m. the day of the hearing.
